Contact the Right Office

Watauga County Busted Mugshots is a private reference service, not a government office. It cannot confirm custody, release anyone, post bond, or pull an official booking record. Contact the agency or court that holds the record.

Watauga County Contacts

Use the contact that matches the question. Detention handles current custody logistics. Sheriff Administration/Records handles record routing. The arresting police department may hold its own report. The court controls the case docket and disposition.

Where to Look for Records

Choose the agency by custody state and record type:

  • Current Watauga custody: call the Detention Center at (828) 265-7614. The official web page does not provide a confirmed public roster.
  • Booking record or photo: call Sheriff Administration/Records at (828) 265-7602 and make a focused written request.
  • Boone arrest: contact Boone Police Records at (828) 268-6906. Its page lists $2 report copies and weekday hours of 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.
  • Blowing Rock arrest: contact Blowing Rock Police at (828) 295-5210. No public city arrest log or photo fee was located.
  • Beech Mountain arrest: contact Beech Mountain Police at (828) 387-2342 and verify whether Watauga or Avery County handled the event.
  • Court result: contact the Watauga Clerk of Superior Court at 842 W King Street, Suite 13, Boone, NC 28607, (828) 268-6600, or use NC eCourts.
  • State, federal, or immigration custody: use NC DAC, BOP, or ICE, because those systems do not answer a local county booking question.

How to Make a Request

Give the custodian enough detail to find the file. Include the full name, approximate date, location, arresting agency, case or booking number if known, and whether inspection or copies are requested. Ask for the public portions of the booking record and identification photograph separately. If material is withheld, request the statutory basis and any segregable portion. A city police report request may not include a county-held jail image.

  1. Identify the agency and custody county.
  2. Send the request through the official contact or records route.
  3. Confirm the current fee and delivery method before paying.
  4. Compare the response with the court record, because charges at booking may later be reduced or dismissed.

State and Federal Routes

A sentenced or supervised person belongs in the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction search, not a county jail roster. The BOP locator covers federal inmates and does not provide booking photos. The ICE locator has separate identity and custody limits. These services can show a different stage of custody than Watauga detention.

For a court outcome, use NC eCourts and the Clerk. An online docket is not a certified copy. A booking is an accusation, and a person remains presumed innocent unless a court proves guilt.
